Hearing & Vision Care
At Westchester Park Pediatrics, our board-certified providers provide a thorough evaluation of your child’s health, including their hearing and vision. Annual hearing and vision screenings are a good way to detect potential problems your child may develop before they become a lifelong disability.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), infants should have a hearing screening no later than when they are one month old. Your child should then receive a full screening test by the age of three months if the initial test was not conclusive. Your child should receive both a hearing and vision test between the ages of two and two and a half – and annual testing thereafter.
The reason these screenings are important is because if your child cannot see well, they cannot learn well. Also, if your child is unable to hear properly, they may have difficulty following rules or develop behavioral issues.
Here are some of the many benefits to annual hearing and vision screenings:
- They enable you and your child’s doctor to address learning disabilities early on.
- They improve communication between you and your child, as well as your child’s communication with others, such as friends, relatives, teacher, and peers, thus enhancing their developmental skills.
- They help improve your child’s safety. Children who are unable to see or hear well may not know how to avoid risks.
- They help improve your child’s overall quality of life.
